PLAKA PAVILION

Plaka has been my home. In my mind it is a home in progress.
A pavilion ideal to me is one that takes advantage of the open space, of the roof, of the balconies and has a feeling of inner and outer space being one.
The climate is great in Greece but we don’t take advantage of that. Green is rarely seen, it is a grey city with medium height buildings and it has always been my passion to bring green back.
My vision is the balconies to be magnificently covered by with plants, smells and the sensation of being close to earth despite the constraint of concrete walls and cement.
The center of Athens is compact and the privacy can be lost so I chose to put high plants like papyrus and bamboo on the balconies.
On the roof, I wanted to recreate a sensation of a wild field, so I chose green and seasonal flowers like poppies tulips daisies. Plants need sun and attention and a love for their growth and this green roof would feel like a manifesto to re-green burned out Athens and Greece.

things to be improved: the distance between light, cut out pattern, and the mirror should be controlled well.
